Ohio State 2018 linebacker commit Teradja Mitchell, a 5-star prospect at Bishop Sullivan Catholic in Virginia Beach, Va., has agreed to do a weekly journal of his senior season with the Crusaders. The nation’s second-ranked inside linebacker joins Land of 10 every Wednesday at 3 p.m.
This past weekend we finally got a chance to play at home, for just the second time this season.
We played Canada Football Prep Academy from Ontario, Canada. This team was a match for our skill and will; we came into the game determined not to lose for the third straight time. Although they didn’t have the elite personnel we had, this team was very aggressive as far as hitting, and they gave it all they had. We still managed to flourish as we came out victorious, winning the game 51-13.
After dropping that wide open pick-six in the Springfield Central game a month ago, I finally got a chance to redeem myself. This time it was a tipped ball, but I managed to catch it, returning it for 98 yards for a score.
I still want to intercept a pass and score instead of catching a tipped ball, but for now, I’ll take it how I can get it. Catching my first career pick-six was one of my many goals to accomplish for myself this year, and I finally got a chance to make it happen. It felt good bringing my goals to life. I really believe you can do anything you set out to do if you work hard enough. I ended up finishing the game with 6 tackles along with the interception for a touchdown.
This coming weekend we are off, but that just means we are off from a game. I know most teams turn it down a notch during bye weeks, but our coach makes practices more intense than usual so that we don’t get rusty or lose the game tempo. The week after next is our homecoming game against another Ontario, Canada team: Royal Imperial Collegiate. We want to keep on track after this last weekend, and you can’t do that by resting too much.
My game was on a Saturday at noon — the same day as college football. Ohio State happened to play at 4:30 p.m. ET. Right after my game, I rushed to the nearest television to tune into the Buckeyes game.
Usually after my games, I am little slow getting undressed and showering because of the soreness, but this Ohio State-Maryland game was one I couldn’t miss. The quarterback of my team, Tyler Desue, is a University of Maryland commit, and all last week, we argued about who would win the game. It was all funny to me that he had the audacity to tell me Maryland was going to beat Ohio State, so I decided to make a bet with him. I figured it’d be easy money to make. I made sure that I’d annoyed him to the fullest and made him eat his words, texting him every time we scored.
“ Touchdown Ohio State!”
It was cool watching us win the game, especially by that big of a margin. Not only did we beat them 62-14, but we held them to only 66 yards of offense, and that’s really crazy to see in a college game. All this week I have been reminding him and rubbing it in his face about the score and total yardage. But it’s all friendly competition, and I think it’s kind of cool that one day I’ll be playing college football against my former high school teammate. Not many people can say that.
