SEC produces 9 players on Sporting News’ 2017 All-America team, 2 first-team selections

Sporting News revealed its 2017 college football All-Americans, and nine SEC players were among those honored.

Auburn led the way with four overall selections. Alabama had two, while Florida, Georgia and LSU each had one apiece.

The SEC didn’t produce any first-teamers on the offensive side of the ball, but it did see two get selected on defense, and those were Georgia LB Roquan Smith and Alabama safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Sporting News is one of five outlets that determine consensus All-Americans, along with the Walter Camp Football Foundation, The Associated Press, the Football Writers Association of America and the American Football Coaches Association. Sporting News has been part of that panel since 1959.

Here’s a look at the full list of SEC players:

First-Team Defense
LB: Roquan Smith, Georgia
S: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama

Second-Team Offense
RB: Kerryon Johnson, Auburn
C: Bradley Bozeman, Alabama
G: Braden Smith, Auburn

Second-Team Defense
CB: Carlton Davis, Auburn
CB: Donte Jackson, LSU

Second-Team Specialists
P: Johnny Townsend, Florida
K: Daniel Carlson, Auburn
