The 2018 NFL Draft is right around the corner, which means the SEC is close to ushering in another round of top-tier talent to the NFL. That’s according to NFL.com’s Charley Casserly 2018 NFL mock draft.
Casserly predicts 11 players from the SEC will hear their names called in the first round of April’s NFL draft.
Here’s a breakdown of where the SEC talent could be headed, and when:
|Minkah Fitzpatrick||DB||Alabama||Browns (4)|
|Calvin Ridley||WR||Alabama||Bears (7)|
|Roquan Smith||LB||Georgia||Dolphins (11)|
|Rashaan Evans||LB||Alabama||Chargers (17)|
|Arden Key||LB||LSU||Seahawks (18)|
|Taven Bryan||DL||Florida||Cowboys (19)|
|Da’Ron Payne||DL||Alabama||Lions (20)|
|Christian Kirk||WR||Texas A&M||Panthers (24)|
|Isaiah Wynn||OL||Georgia||Atlanta (26)|
|Derrius Guice||RB||LSU||Steelers (28)|
|Donte Jackson||DB||LSU||Eagles (32)|
It’s possible this is an optimistic projection for the SEC, mostly because of the three LSU players in contention. The Tigers were shutout of Mel Kiper Jr.’s initial draft projection after the season ended, and he didn’t have any problem justifying that decision.
Still, if the SEC lands over one third of the first round draft selections, the conference can consider it a wild success. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Roquan Smith are likely to be top 10 selections while Calvin Ridley, Rashaan Evans and Da’Ron Payne could knock on the door for that honor.
All of these athletes will get the chance to impress scouts and teams one more time at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis from Feb. 27-March 5. The NFL Draft will be held in Arlington from April 26-28.
