Rutgers and Purdue meet in a Big Ten East vs. West game Saturday, October 21, 2017.  Find game time, TV channel and how to watch online information below. This is the first time the two teams have ever met.

The Scarlet Knights come in at 2-4, sitting fifth in the Big Ten East after a 35-24 win over Illinois last weekend. Their only other win came in a week 3 win over Morgan State, while they’ve lost to Washington, Eastern Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State.

The Boilermakers are 3-3 and are currently third in the Big Ten West. Last weekend the team lost a tough 17-9 game to Wisconsin. The squad’s wins have come over Ohio, Missouri and Minnesota and the Boilermakers have lost close games to Louisville, Michigan and the Badgers.

The Scarlet Knights are nine-point underdogs to the Boilermakers despite playing at home on Saturday and are +280 on the money line, according to MyBookie. The spread for the game is 49.5.

With no history against the Boilermakers, they are the 12th different Big Ten opponent since joining the conference before the 2014 season. The only conference team the Scarlet Knights haven’t played is Northwestern.

The two teams will next meet again at Purdue in 2020.

The weekend is also Homecoming for the Scarlet Knights, who are 53-30 in those games.

The Scarlet Knights are averaging 24 points per game, while opponents are averaging 25 points against them. They do out-gain their opponents in rushing yards, though, while other teams have an advantage in passing yards and total yardage.

Leading the rushing attack is fifth-year senior Gus Edwards, who’s churned out 407 yards on 93 carries with four touchdowns. Robert Martin and Raheem Blackshear both have 200 or more yards on the season as well with Martin scoring two touchdowns and Blackshear scoring three.

Giovanni Rescigno made his first start of the season for the Scarlet Knights last week against the Fighting Illini and threw for 89 yards with 41 rushing yards, while former starter Kyle Bolin also took snaps.

Bolin is the leading passer with 711 yards and three touchdowns through the air, but has also thrown six interceptions. Rescigno has completed seven of his 12 passing attempts for 112 yards and no scores.

The team has been throwing to leading receivers Janarion Grant, who has 15 catches for 162 yards and Jerome Washington, who has 16 catches for 141 yards. Both have one touchdown.

Leading the defense are linebackers Trevor Morris and Deonte Roberts with 45 and 44 total tackles, respectively. Defensive back Kiy Hester leads the squad with two interceptions.

Lineman Darnell Davis has two sacks and 3.5 total tackles for a loss to lead the defense.

Punter Ryan Anderson now leads the Big Ten in yards per punt with an impressive average of 44.5 yards per kick. He has 14 punts that have gone at least 50 yards and four that went 60 or more.

Last weekend, the Scarlet Knights defeated the Illini by running the football, out-gaining them on the ground 274-86. Edwards had 91 yards and two scores, while Blackshear had 87 yards and averaged 14.5 yards per carry.

In the Boilermakers loss to the Badgers, the team kicked three field goals from the legs of Spencer Evans and J.D. Dellinger. Elijah Sindelar started the game at quarterback for the squad and completed 13-of-29 passes for 115 yards and one interception, while a number of running backs combined for just 66 yards on the ground.
