The Alabama football program has deep pockets, as do a number of other SEC teams like LSU and Florida. Ohio State, Michigan and Oklahoma are just a few others that come to mind.
All of them have a distinct advantage when it comes to the early signing period according to former UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel. His reasoning makes a lot of sense and it’s actually fairly simple.
The early signing period takes place next week with colleges hoping that they'll get the best recruits before Feburary's signing day.

Quite easily said. Neuheisel thinks more money means more people on staff which means more bodies to handle all the responsibility.
Here is the interview transcribed below.
This is what people didn’t realize when they did this December signing day that the amount that’s going on right now in terms of coaching changes and people having to be here there and everywhere is rediculous. To me, if you wanted an early signing day, the whole idea behind it was to allow those who knew where they wanted to go to just get off the market go where they’re going and hopefully save some money for everybody else so you’re not wasting time on guys who know where they want to go. That being said, that should have been done in August right before you start camp so you can focus on your season. Then once the season is over you have the next couple of months or at least six weeks to go ahead and get ready for that February time.
This just lends itself to the power of having more and more people. It plays to the rich, it just does. In terms of who can afford the staffs that are going to go and do the recruiting and the evaluating and then have another group of guys who are over here on the football side of it. It’s an amazing enterprise that some of these departmens have.
“It plays to the rich” obviously takes into account an elite few teams without mentioning every single one. Alabama and a few others are clearly in that group.
Neuheisel isn’t really wrong either. It should help Alabama to have more people. Then again, a recruit is also going to commit where he wants to go and hopefully won’t be pressured to make a decision by the chance to do it early.
