Rice graduate transfer Calvin Anderson headed to Texas for visit

Highly recruited former Rice tackle Calvin Anderson will inspect  Texas as one of his four finalists.

Anderson, an 6-foot-5,  300-pound Austin Westlake graduate, will visit four schools as a graduate transfer. Others include  Oklahoma, Auburn and Michigan.

He would provide an experienced potential starter wherever he ends up. Anderson has started  36 consecutive games at Rice. He’s due to receive a degree in mathematical economics later this spring and would be immediately eligible at his new school.

Replacement at Texas’ biggest projected weakness

At Texas, he would provide an immediate upgrade over the returning talent of a group that will lose  Connor Williams to the NFL Draft.  The injury-riddled Texas offensive line ranked 103rd nationally with an average of 2.62 sacks allowed per game.

Anderson tweeted Tuesday night that he plans to visit Oklahoma this weekend as his final campus visit. The Dallas Morning News  reports that he also met with TCU coach Gary Patterson and coaches at Texas A&M, but neither made his final list.
