Reuben Unije committed to Illinois football on Sunday, giving the Illini a priority offensive line recruit days before the new early signing period starts.

Unije a 3-star offensive tackle out of IMG Academy in Florida, is ranked as the No. 32 player at his position on the 247Sports composite system. Unije is now Illinois’ second-highest rated commit in the Class of 2018 behind DT Calvin Avery, who committed in August.

Unije has the size college coaches are looking for an an offensive tackle recruit at 6-foot-5 and 303 pounds. That size could make him a candidate to play early in his Illinois career, as the Illini started freshman at four out of five spots on the offensive line this season.

Here’s the 247Sports evaluation on Unije:

“New to football and has only played football for a couple of years after growing up with love for soccer. Passes the eye-test immediately. Good length, skinny ankle, good bend, and the ability to move in space. Very raw. Still learning the offensive tackle position. Just needs to refine his technique and really learn his position. You see so much upside and potential as he gets more familiar with football.”
