Willie Taggart wasn’t able to lure Jim Leavitt to Tallahassee but it appears another Oregon assistant is on board.
Oregon running backs coach Donte Pimpleton is headed to FSU to coach the same position, according to a report from Aaron Fentress of NBC Sports Northwest.
Pimpleton is the first Oregon assistant coach that Taggart has hired away from the Ducks since he left leaving on Dec. 4 after one season to replace Jimbo Fisher at Florida State.
Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt was widely expected to follow Taggart to FSU, however it was reported last night that he was re-signed to a 4-year deal to remain in Eugene.
Meanwhile, there’s plenty of familiarity between Taggart and Simpleton.
Pimpleton arrived at Oregon this season after spending two seasons as the running backs coach under Taggart at South Florida. Pimpleton initially coached for Taggart at Western Kentucky as the wide receivers coach.
Fentress is also reporting that there’s a “good chance” at least one more current Oregon assistant will be hired at Florida State.
Oregon outside linebackers coach/special teams coordinator Raymond Woodie could be next.
Woodie was Taggart’s defensive coordinator at South Florida in 2016.
