Smith was averaging 6.5 points per game for the Red Raiders before sustaining the injury. He has not played in a game since Texas Tech defeated Kansas State, 74-58, on Jan. 6.
A video from Carlos Silva Jr. of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal showed fans applauding Smith on Saturday as he took the court at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.

The Red Raiders are looking to keep their hopes of an outright Big 12 regular season title alive vs. the Jayhawks. Kansas can clinch at least a share of the league title with a win — currently a game ahead of Texas Tech in the conference standings.
Tip-off for the contest is set for 3:15 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPN.
