Texas Tech defensive coordinator David Gibbs is reportedly not a candidate for the same position at Arizona State.
It was reported by Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman that Arizona State’s new head coach Herm Edwards was “targeting” Gibbs to join his staff. But DevilsDigest.com and SunDevilSource.com’s Chris Karpman both refuted the report on Thursday.
A source close to Arizona State's defensive coordinator coaching search said that Texas Tech defensive coordinator David Gibbs is not a candidate for this position.

David Gibbs hasn’t been discussed internally as serious candidate for ASU’s defensive coordinator, contrary to report by Bruce Feldman yesterday, per program sources.

Edwards’ interest in Gibbs stems from their time together in Kansas City, when Edwards was the head coach and Gibbs was the Chiefs’ defensive backs coach.
Gibbs has served as the Texas Tech defensive coordinator since 2015, but it’s not hard to imagine the 49-year-old coach with ties to Edwards would consider a reunion. But it appears he’ll be staying put in Lubbock, Texas, where he’s seen gradual progress in changing the perception of the Red Raiders defense.
