During Tennessee’s wild coaching search, one named that appeared in rumors was Washington State coach Mike Leach.
Now, it appears Leach won’t be going to an SEC school — or any other school — anytime soon.
According to Derek Deis of KXLY, the Cougars are signing Leach to an extension on Monday. The length and terms of the rumored extension are still unknown.
Leach has a 38-37 record over six seasons at Washington State, which includes going 26-12 over the past three years. He led the Cougars to a 9-3 mark during the regular season this year, and they have a Holiday Bowl matchup against Michigan State on Dec. 28.
Prior to his tenure at Washington State, Leach was head coach at Texas Tech for 10 seasons, going 84-43. He was an assistant at Kentucky from 1997-98, but it appears he won’t be coming back to the SEC for a while, if he ever does for that matter.
Leach’s name was also mentioned in Arkansas rumors, although nothing ever came to fruition.
Tennessee hired Jeremy Pruitt, Arkansas hired Chad Morris and Leach remained at Washington State to cap the wild season of coaching rumors.
