One report that surfaced Saturday afternoon doesn’t sound good for Tennessee coach Butch Jones.
Shortly after the Volunteers lost to South Carolina at Neyland Stadium, Benjamin Allbright of Cover32.com reported that he received a text message from a “connected source at Tennessee” who told him the Vols’ 15-9 loss to the Gamecocks was “the nail in the coffin for Butch.”

The Vols’ loss to South Carolina was damaging for Tennessee on a number of levels. First of all, it appeared to be a winnable game and a decent way to recover after a tough 41-0 defeat to Georgia on Sept. 30. Then there’s the fact that the Vols play at Alabama next week, a game that figures to be super unkind to the Vols. Tennessee has dropped to 3-3, and the program appears to be stuck under Jones at the moment.
Tennessee’s program will be worth watching closely in the coming hours, days and weeks.
