Report: Alabama interviewed Tulane assistant for open DL coach position

Karl Dunbar was recently hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers, which left Alabama looking for a new defensive line coach.

It appears the Crimson Tide have begun digging around and found a potential candidate in the American Athletic Conference according to Charlie Potter of 247sports.

Tulane defensive line coach Kevin Peoples recently interviewed for the position, according to BOL sources. Peoples just finished his second season working with the Green Wave.

In his first season at Tulane in 2016, Peoples coached a defensive line anchored by Tanzel Smart, who earned first-team honors from the American Athletic Conference and went on to be a sixth-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Peoples was at Georgia Southern with now Tulane coach Willie Fritz, leading the program to 18 wins and a bowl victory in two seasons.

He also has previous experience in Alabama and the SEC. He worked with the defensive line at University of Alabama-Birmingham in 2013. He joined the University of Arkansas staff in 2010 after nine seasons at Arkansas State.
