Reggie Ragland considers any thoughts that Alabama’s success had more to do with Kirby Smart than Nick Saban to be funny.

On Sunday, the former Crimson Tide linebacker found a particular thread from a Georgia message board to be humorous. The thread, as relayed by Barstool Bama, was titled “Starting to think Alabama was Kirby, not Saban.” Of course, Smart is the current Bulldogs coach and has impressed in leading Georgia to a 6-0 start in his second season in Athens. Smart was Alabama’s defensive coordinator from 2008 to 2015.

Certainly, Ragland’s opinion holds weight. He had 220 tackles and 4 sacks as a pillar of Alabama’s defense from 2012 to 2015. Ragland, now with the Kansas City Chiefs, began his professional career as a second-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Along with Auburn, Alabama and Georgia have separated themselves from the rest of the SEC. There’s a good possibility that the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs will meet in the SEC Championship Game if Alabama can beat Auburn and if Georgia continues its strong play.

Ragland knows who’s to credit for the Crimson Tide’s success throughout the past decade.
