Reaction to Mario Cristobal’s first game as Oregon coach is not kind

Mario Cristobal-Oregon Ducks-Las Vegas Bowl game

The first game of the Mario Cristobal era for Oregon football was a forgettable one, as the Ducks were beaten in every phase en route to 38-28 loss to Boise State in the 20David Becker/Getty Images17 Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday.

The Ducks were woeful in the first half with 4 turnovers. They trailed 24-0, but were able to stay in the game thanks to 2 defensive touchdowns deep in the red zone in less than 40 seconds.

Though the offense showed life in the second half, it was nowhere near what people were expecting when the Ducks removed the interim tag from Cristobal’s name last week, making him the full-time coach.

The fans came out in droves on Twitter, voicing their frustration at the flat performance.

However, there were some who have optimism that Cristobal is a good hire and the man to lead Oregon football back to national prominence.

A one-game sample is no doubt not enough to make a full judgment of the decision, but given how vocal the players were for Cristobal as the coach, it’s shocking how poorly prepared they appeared and the amount of mental errors and turnovers. It seems like he failed in his first chance to make an impact, with the fans at least.
