Edwards, Purdue’s second-leading scorer, also was sidelined in a win over Penn State on Sunday. Edwards is averaging 14.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game this season for the No. 9 Boilermakers.
Purdue needs a win against the Illini (7 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1) to keep its Big Ten title hopes alive. The Boilermakers would need to beat Illinois on Thursday, win against Minnesota on Sunday and have Michigan State lose to Wisconsin in order to claim a share of the conference championship.
Purdue enters Thursday night’s game with a 24-5 overall record (13-3 in the Big Ten). This is the only regular season meeting Matt Painter’s team has with Illinois this season.
