A ‘Prowler’ hanging around Raider athletes

FAIRBORN — It’s an odd sight when Wright State strength coach Jason Bradford lugs his Prowler sled into the small parking lot in front of the Setzer Pavilion.

Bradford lets a sinister sneer curl his lips when he is followed by athletes from all the school’s sports, especially during the last week when it was cold out and baseball players were doing the pushing, including sophomores Tristan Moore, Jake Hibberd and Garrett Gray, junior Dan Marsh and seniors Alex Kaminsky, Sam Mote and Gerald Ogrinc.

Bradford uses this new piece of gear to better condition the athletes.

“You have to keep your rear end above your head,” Bradford said. “It puts pressure on the hips and quads, and gives you better acceleration. It gives you a burn all over.”

Bradford jokes athletes hate using the machine, and he loves using it. However, he says everybody loves the results.

At the moment, WSU has just one Prowler, and it belongs to Bradford, who said it costs $500-600, including shipping. He hopes to be able to purchase three for the school next year.

Volleyball recruits

Setter Molly Dolson and outside hitters Heidi Splinter and Britney Terrell have signed as recruits for the volleyball team.

Dolson and Spliner are from the same Dubuque, Iowa, Hempstead High School. Dolson was second-team all-state, while Splinter was all-district. Terrell is from Canton (Jackson H.S.), and was all-region for three seasons.

Students count

The Horizon League Network is trying to determine the No. 1 student section at men’s regular-season basketball games, but only one game per school will count in the evaluation.

Wright State’s game will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 30 when Loyola visits the Nutter Center. Not that the promotion is unfair, but Butler — in recent seasons the best team in the league — is the opponent in three road games, and Loyola isn’t exactly a natural WSU rival.
