The Big 12 vs. SEC matchup would likely play in favor of the Mountaineers if it comes to fruition.
Kentucky is 5-1 with only a loss to Florida on the season, but has struggled with weaker teams and is playing in the inept SEC East. West Virginia has two losses by seven points each, and the Mountaineers lost to two AP top 15 teams.
There’s a clear difference there, even though the Mountaineers haven’t beaten any ranked teams. This could all change, and Kentucky could catch fire and become the favorite, but as of right now, oddsmakers would likely choose West Virginia.
Going to the Liberty Bowl would be a bummer for a West Virginia team many thought would be a dark horse in the Big 12 title race. The Mountaineers have faced some setbacks, but with their defense returning to form against TCU, there’s a strong chance that they can come roaring back into the conference picture with a strong October.
