On their own, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield’s basic stats are impressive. But Pro Football Focus’ in-depth analysis shows he’s truly one of the best in the country.
Pro Football Focus examined the top 13 draft-eligible quarterbacks, and Mayfield graded as the best overall. He also graded as the best on short, intermediate and deep throws and ranked first in adjusted completion percentage.

A key factor of Mayfield’s success is that he has the most time to throw of any of the 13. That’s credit to both the Sooners’ offensive line and Mayfield’s elusiveness.
After setting an FBS record with a 196.4 passer rating a year ago, Mayfield has been even better this season, leading the nation at 214.1. He’s thrown 16 touchdown passes without an interception, easily the best ratio in the country. Of course, he led the Sooners to arguably the biggest victory by any team this season, winning 31-16 on the road against then-No. 2 Ohio State.
Although Mayfield and Oklahoma lost to Iowa State last week, they have a chance to rebound against rival Texas in the Red River Showdown. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Mayfield continue to assert himself as the nation’s best draft-eligible quarterback.
