Penn State offers Miami Hurricanes commit Cameron Williams

Penn State’s push to expand recruiting efforts in Florida led the Nittany Lions to a Miami Hurricanes commit earlier this week. Cameron Williams, a junior at Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Hollywood, Fla.), reported a Penn State offer on Monday evening.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound defensive end joined Miami’s 2019 class on Jan. 20, following a commitment flip from the Florida Gators. Scholarship offers have since arrived from Florida State, Missouri, Oklahoma and Penn State.

Williams initially pledged to Florida last July and built rapport with former Gators assistant Ju’Juan Seider, who now serves as Nittany Lions running backs coach. He made it a point to thank Seider in his Miami commitment announcement.

It comes as no surprise that this pursuit will be spearheaded by the same coach. Penn State also offered Chaminade-Madonna teammate John Dunmore — another former Florida commit — soon after Seider’s arrival.

Though Williams wavered on his first commitment, an attempt to pry him away from Miami projects as a difficult task.

“That’s the hometown school,” Chaminade-Madonna coach Dameon Jones told DieHards’ David Wilson. “It’s the school he grew up watching and was a fan of, so once the opportunity came and presented itself it was going to be kind of hard for him to turn it down.”

Williams secured 68 tackles and 14 sacks in 2017, according to Sean Fitz of 247Sports. Watch his junior-season highlights here:

Julian Fleming continues to attract national spotlight

Priority Penn State target Julian Fleming left little doubt about his status as one of America’s most impressive underclassmen last season. The Southern Columbia (Catawissa, Pa.) receiver overcame immense coverage attention from opponents to deliver a phenomenal sophomore campaign.

Fleming, a 6-3, 190-pound prospect, collected 69 catches for 1,462 yards and 20 touchdowns during an unbeaten run to the Class 2A state championship. He added 35 tackles, 4 interceptions and 2 scores on special teams.

Through two prep seasons, his career statistics are record breaking. Fleming recorded 105 receptions for 2,418 yards (23 per catch) and 33 touchdowns as an underclassman, starring as a basketball player and track athlete along the way.

In a long-expected development, Fleming was recognized as one of six 5-star talents in early 247Sports 2020 recruit rankings on Wednesday afternoon. He is the lone receiver in this top tier, and easily the No. 1 prospect in Pennsylvania.  Fleming lands at No. 2 nationally on the list, trailing only fellow Nittany Lions target Bryan Bresee (defensive end; Damascus, Md.).

A couple of Keystone State products earned 4-star status: tight end Michael Carmody (Mars) and linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green (Pittsburgh).

Along with rankings respect, Fleming received a notable high school football honor last Thursday. Fleming was invited to compete in the 2020 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which features an alumni list loaded with NFL talent such as receivers Keenan Allen, Odell Beckham, Stefon Diggs and DeSean Jackson.

It’s easy to forget he is only halfway through his high school career, especially when reviewing his collegiate options. Penn State presented an offer last June, and his list of suitors has swelled to include Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and West Virginia.

Fleming underwent surgery this winter to repair a torn labrum in his right hip. He expects to be ready for summer training sessions.
