Penn State-Michigan, Week 8 betting odds
Penn State, ranked No. 2 in the rankings, is a strong favorite against Michigan. According to MyBookie, the Nittany Lions are 9.5-point favorites against Michigan. The over/under is at 43 points.
Second-ranked Penn State is 6-0 this season, including 3-0 in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions are also coming off a bye, as they haven’t played since beating Northwestern 31-7 on October 7.
Michigan is 5-1 overall this season and 2-1 in the Big Ten. After losing at home to rival Michigan State, 14-10, on October 7, the Wolverines regrouped to win at Indiana, 27-20, in overtime last week.
Penn State-Michigan betting picks
If going by last year’s result, Penn State has a ton of ground of make up on Michigan.
In the 2016 meeting in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Wolverines crushed Penn State 49-10. However, Penn State didn’t lose for the rest of the regular season, beating No. 2 Ohio State in a thriller at night. The Nittany Lions eventually won the Big Ten East and then rallied to beat Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game.
This season, with its strong start and Heisman leader Saquon Barkley, the Lions appear to have the edge on the field, at least on offense. The Nittany Lions also have the huge edge with a home night game and a White Out on ABC.
With Michigan’s defense, the Wolverines always have a chance. But Penn State has more on offense to beat Michigan a little more than the spread.
Score prediction: Penn State 21, Michigan 10
Penn State-Michigan betting preview
Michigan has a clear edge in the series all-time at 13-7. The Wolverines have won the last three games, too. In 2014, Michigan won 18-13 at home. In 2015, the Wolverines won 28-16 on the road. Last year, Michigan routed the Nittany Lions, 49-10.
Before Michigan’s three-game run, Penn State had won four in a row: 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013. In the 2013 game, the Nittany Lions beat No. 18 Michigan 43-40 in a four-overtime thriller.
Penn State (6-0 overall, 3-0 Big Ten) is averaging 39.7 points and giving up 9 points per game this season. RB Saquon Barkley is the team’s biggest star. He’s scored rushing, receiving, returning and passing touchdowns this season.
Michigan (5-1 overall, 2-1 Big Ten) averages 27.2 points per game while surrendering 14.7 points per game. Ty Isaac and Karan Higdon lead the rushing attack. Though Isaac has 416 yards to Higdon’s 410, Higdon was the star in Michigan’s 27-20 overtime win at Indiana. Higdon rushed for 200 yards as the Wolverines beat the Hoosiers.
With QB Wilton Speight injured, John O’Korn has become the starter. O’Korn has struggled, however. He is 45-for-82 passing for 563 yards, 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. He had three interceptions in the 14-10 loss to Michigan State.
The Wolverines have been dominant on defense. Devin Bush leads with 50 total tackles. Chase Winovich has also been a force with 40 total tackles, 8 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. Maurice Hurst has also been one of the best defenders in the country with 31 total tackles and 7 tackles for loss.
