No. 1 OSU looks to defeat odds in tourney

Good news for Ohio State: Twenty-one teams have entered the men’s NCAA basketball tournament ranked No. 1 in the country in at least one major poll and gone on to win the championship. Bad news for No. 1 OSU: No team has done it since Duke in 2001, and only four have done it in the 26 years since the tournament expanded to 64 teams.

Here are the most recent 10 to accomplish the feat:

1973 — UCLA (beat Memphis State in final)

1974 — N.C. State (Marquette)

1975 — UCLA (Kentucky)

1976 — Indiana (Michigan)

1978 — Kentucky (Duke)

1982 — North Carolina (Georgetown)

1992 — Duke (Michigan)

1994 — Arkansas (Duke)

1995 — UCLA (Arkansas)

2001 — Duke (Arizona)
