Oregon-Boise State: Picks for the 2017 Las Vegas Bowl:

This bowl game figures to be the best one of those in the opening weekend. The Broncos come into the game ranked No. 25 in the country. Two of their losses on the year did come against Power-5 teams in the form of Virginia and Washington State.

On offense, Boise State is led by quarterback Brett Rypien, who threw for 14 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on the year, while completing 63.5 percent of his passes. At running back, Boise State can turn to Alexander Mattison, who leads the Broncos with 1,074 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.

As for Oregon, this will be the first game with Cristobal as head coach. Cristobal was named the interim after Taggart left for Florida State and then Oregon promoted Cristobal to the full-time role on December 8. Justin Herbert is Oregon’s quarterback and when he has played this year the Ducks are 6-1, compared to just 1-4 when he does not play.

Oregon will be without its star running back in Royce Freeman. He ran for 1,475 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns this year.

These two teams have a history, given that they’ve been two of the best teams in the pacific northwest in the past decade. This is the first time the two teams will have met since 2009, which was Chip Kelly‘s first game at Oregon. The Broncos won that game 19-8, and it is largely remembered for  LeGarrette Blount punching a Boise State player.

Given that Herbert is expected to play for the Ducks, he is the difference in the game and the reason Oregon will begin the Cristobal era with a win. Score: Oregon 34-Boise State 17
