A recent surge by Oklahoma State has boosted the Cowboys into the top slot among Big 12 teams in this week’s Sagarin ratings.
The Cowboys (6-1, 3-1) are ranked ninth nationally after gritty road victories at Texas Tech and Texas sandwiched around a blowout home victory over Baylor.
Oklahoma (6-1, 3-1) checks in at 11th. And TCU, the Big 12’s leader in both the human polls and the standings is 12th.
It’s interesting because the Horned Frogs notched and impressive 44-31 victory in Stillwater, Okla., over the Cowboys on Sept. 23.
That game appears to have been pushed deep into Sagarin’s list of variables.
The ranking are developed by mathematician Jeff Sagarin of Bloomington, Ind. It was one of the first analytic tools crafted for college sports. It has been used to help seed the NCAA men’s basketball tournament since the mid-1980s and was a component of the Bowl Championship Series rankings during its run from 1998 to 2014.
At least heading into the Cowboys’ game Saturday at No. 38 West Virginia.
