SI projects Oklahoma State to return to Alamo Bowl, face USC

Oklahoma State’s victory against Colorado in the 2016 Alamo Bowl was viewed as a jumpstart for the program heading into 2017. Instead, five games into this season, the Cowboys are projected to be back where they were a year ago. Sports Illustrated’s latest bowl projections have Oklahoma State facing USC in the Alamo Bowl, one of the top non-New Year’s Six bowl games.

Both teams entered the season with College Football Playoff hopes, mostly thanks to their Heisman-caliber quarterbacks. The Cowboys still have Mason Rudolph, and the Trojans still have Sam Darnold.

It’s safe to assume that both programs hope that if they do meet, it’s with the national championship on the line, not an Alamo Bowl title. There’s still time for the teams to recover and make it to that point.

Mike Gundy recalls time as Les Miles’ offensive coordinator

Mike Gundy took over the Oklahoma State football program in 2005 when Les Miles left for LSU. More than a decade later, the two remain friends.

During his weekly news conference, Gundy shared some memories of Miles, whose podcast he recently appeared on. Those memories include Miles’ desire to take over play-calling duties near the goal line. Miles, who was fired from LSU last season, wants to coach again, Gundy said.
