Oklahoma State picks up pledge from Texas CB Tanner McCalister

Oklahoma State-Tanner McCalister-commitment-2018-recruiting

Mike Gundy has struck gold on the recruiting trail yet again.

On Sunday evening, Rockwall-Heath (Texas) cornerback Tanner McCalister brought his recruitment to a close with his commitment to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, he announced on Twitter.

A 3-star prospect with 16 offers to date, McCalister was previously committed to Arkansas, but reopened his recruitment on Nov. 28. Mississippi State, Nevada, SMU, Missouri, TCU and Washington State were among those that once coveted McCalister’s services.

It was Oklahoma State, however, that pushed down the stretch, and after hosting McCalister for a visit on Dec. 15, those efforts paid off in the form of the Pokes latest pledge.

“I liked it,” McCalister said of his visit, via 247Sports. “We spent time with the coaches. I talked to Coach Spencer and watched tape and we toured the campus and that was really important. I feel more at home and see how it is like being in a family. My host was Thabo Mwaniki and we both have the same trainer back home (Mwaniki is from Denton Guyer High School) and we have trained together.”

With McCalister on board, Oklahoma State’s 2018 class is now up to 21 pledges and ranked within the top 30 nationally. Furthermore, McCalister becomes the Pokes 11th pledge from Texas and joins JayVeon Cardwell, Jason Taylor, Kanion Williams and Kolby Peel as the defensive backs soon to be headed to Stillwater.

The 5-foot-11, 182-pound McCalister is ranked as the nation’s No. 655 player, No. 59 cornerback and the No. 87 player in Texas.
