Recruiting never stops, and if you take a day off, you fall behind. Join us every night for a daily recap of Ohio State recruiting news, insight on what’s happening behind the scenes and a glimpse at what’s coming next.

Decision coming soon for Tommy Togiai?

On Monday night, we talked about 5-star cornerback Anthony Cook and his looming college decision. Now, we’re looking at another one of Ohio State’s top recruiting priorities, defensive tackle Tommy Togiai, and his upcoming choice.

Last week, Togiai was presented his U.S. Army All-American jersey during a ceremony at Highlands High School in Pocatello (Idaho) and told Cam Smith of USA Today High School Sports that the chance to represent his team as an Army All-American is an opportunity he relishes.

“It was really exciting to get everything and see everybody here today,” Togiai told USA Today. “It’s one I won’t forget. … It’s a great honor to be an All-American. All the hard work I put into this leads me to be able to play in this great bowl.”

Beyond those platitudes, though, are the real meat and potatoes of Togiai’s recruitment, which has been boiled down to two schools: Ohio State and Washington.

He holds 15 scholarship offers from national power programs but is expected to choose between Ohio State and Washington. He told USA Today that he plans to make and announce his final decision within the next two weeks.

Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson Sr. was in Idaho last week to watch Togiai play on Friday night. According to sources close to the Buckeyes, they believe this battle will go to the end between the two schools, with a decision likely hinging on Togiai’s willingness to go so far from home for school. So far, it appears he’s willing to make the trek, but as we’ve mentioned before, as decision day comes and that reality becomes even more real, it’s more and more difficult to say yes.

There’s optimism in Columbus around Togiai, but to say it’s guarded would be an understatement.

Rasheed Walker confirms Ohio State visit

There’s a major recruiting weekend coming for the Buckeyes, and one of Ohio State’s top remaining targets along the offensive line will be in town to see the two schools that are probably his top two options.

That is Rasheed Walker, a 4-star tackle from Waldorf (Md.) North Point and a player that has 93 percent of his 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions going to the Buckeyes’ opponent this weekend, Penn State.

Over the last few months, Walker’s recruitment has been pretty quiet. Speculation that Penn State (with 22 commitments) was running out of room for him seems to have been overblown a bit, and in recent weeks the rumor mill has been working overtime with Walker-to-Penn State conjecture.

The Buckeyes will see Walker on an unofficial visit this weekend, something he confirmed with Land of 10 on Tuesday, and that means there’s at least an outside chance that he’ll get to Columbus one more time after this weekend for an official. That would be big, big news for Ohio State if it were to come to fruition, but it will only happen if they’re able to hold off what’s sure to be a major Penn State push in coming weeks.

Ohio State to see local 5-star again

The Buckeyes will get a chance to impress local 5-star defensive end Zach Harrison again this weekend. The Olentangy Orange (Lewis Center, Ohio) standout confirmed with Land of 10 his plans to attend the Ohio State-Penn State game.

“Yes,” Harrison replied when I asked if he’ll be at the game. “I’m talking to [Buckeyes coach] Urban Meyer and Larry Johnson a couple of times a week.”

This will be the second time in two weeks that Harrison will see Penn State up close, as he visited Happy Valley last weekend, and his second visit to Ohio State this season. He also was in attendance when the Buckeyes hosted Oklahoma on Sept. 9.

Lewis Cine glad to get Buckeyes offer

Before my vacation last week, I talked to you guys about Lewis Cine, a 4-star 2019 safety from Everett, Mass., who recently picked up an offer from Ohio State. The offer, his 22nd, was one he hoped to land.

“I was waiting for that offer,” Cine told Land of 10. “I’ve had interest in them for the longest time.”

The offer came via Ryan Day, who recruits the Northeast for Ohio State, but it was the result of an impressive performance at Friday Night Lights in Columbus this past July.

“I was at camp there,” he said. “And they said they’ve been keeping up with my highlights in the season and they love the way I run around and make plays. They loved [my tape] and wanted to offer.”

Though he was excited about the offer, there’s no plans for any immediate visit back to campus for the 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect.

“We are in the playoffs now,” he said. “So [a visit] would be tough, because we’ve got to focus on that.”
