Jackson Carman visits Clemson

Fairfield, Ohio, 5-star tackle Jackson Carman visited Clemson last weekend, drawing one step nearing to the conclusion of a highly publicized recruitment.

Carman is widely expected to end up at Ohio State, but it will be Clemson and USC who have the last serious chance to sway him. His final official visit will take place Dec. 15-17 in Southern California, with the dead period (no in-person contact between prospects and coaches) beginning one day later on Dec. 18. As an early enrollee, Carman will sign with his school of choice in the early signing period, which begins Dec. 20.

While those two schools will have the last chance to host Carman on campus visits, Ohio State has already hosted him several times this fall, including for an official visit. Additionally, the Buckeyes still have an in-home visit that they can still use if they so desire, so it’s a safe bet that Urban Meyer and an assistant or two will make a trip there sometime this week.

Matthew Baldwin advances in Texas playoffs

Ohio State’s newest commitment and his high school team extended their season with another win in the Texas playoffs on Saturday.

Playing in the Class 6A, Division I regional final, Austin (Texas) Lake Travis quarterback Matthew Baldwin completed 24 of 30 passes for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 38-17 win. He also ran for another touchdown.

“Matthew is a great player, and he’s still getting better,” Lake Travis coach Hank Carter told the Austin American-Statesman. “He has only 14 starts under his belt. The sky is the limit.”

Baldwin’s biggest test to date will come in the state semifinals on Saturday, when Lake Travis faces Katy in the Alamodome. Katy is ranked No. 6 nationally by MaxPreps and No. 13 nationally by USA Today.

Baldwin, the No. 17 pro-style quarterback in 2018 per the 247Sports composite rankings, committed to Ohio State on Thursday.

Jeremy Ruckert named best in New York

The honors keep rolling in for Lindenhurst, N.Y., tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who last week was named the best high school football player in Suffolk County.

On Monday the 4-star tight end and Ohio State commit was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of New York.

The honor came one day after he completed his official visit to Ohio State.
