Ohio State offers Garrett Wilson

Could a high school teammate follow Ohio State commit Matthew Baldwin to Columbus? In the case of Garrett Wilson, it would be more like returning home.

Wilson, a 4-star receiver in the Class of 2019 at Austin (Texas) Lake Travis, was offered a scholarship by the Buckeyes on Tuesday.

But unlike most out-of-state prospects, Wilson has a pretty close connection with Ohio State. He grew up in a Columbus suburb.

“I’m from Dublin, Ohio,” Wilson told Land of 10 back in October. “I moved to Austin in seventh grade. I grew up going to all the Terrelle Pryor and Braxton Miller games. I’ve always loved the Buckeyes.

“Growing up in Columbus and having two brothers that played high school football there, that dreamed of getting an offer from Ohio State, but never did? It’s definitely a dream of mine if they’d want me to play for them.”

Now he’ll have a chance to play for the Buckeyes if he wants it — and he could have a familiar face throwing him passes in the future.

Urban Meyer visits Tommy Togiai

Here’s something you don’t see every day — Urban Meyer spent Tuesday in Pocatello, Idaho, to check up on 4-star defensive tackle Tommy Togiai.

The Buckeyes have spent the last few months battling it out with Washington, and momentum could be in Ohio State’s favor. Meyer is also expected to make an in-home visit with Togiai on Tuesday night, and Togiai plans on signing with a school on Dec. 20 during the early signing period.

2 Ohio State commits up for honor

Ohio State has two Class of 2018 commitments up for ALL-USA Football Defensive Player of the Year, an award given by USA Today to the best high school football player in the country.

The list of five nominees includes Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy 5-star defensive tackle Taron Vincent and Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan 4-star linebacker Teradja Mitchell.

Ohio State fans can vote here for either player.
