Ohio State-Iowa: Game time announcement for Week 10 game

Ohio State and Iowa will square off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The game will be on ESPN.

This is the first time the two teams have met since 2013, when the Buckeyes picked up a 34-24 victory at Ohio Stadium. The announcement means Ohio State will not play a fourth night game in 2017. The Buckeyes already have road night wins against Indiana, Rutgers and Nebraska, with each of those coming in blowouts.

However, Iowa beat Michigan in a November night game in 2016 and also pushed Penn State to the limit in a 21-19 loss in a home night game earlier this season.

Urban Meyer previously expressed his displeasure at the thought of the Buckeyes having to play a fourth road night game this year.

“It sure does (bother me),” he said. “I understand TV contracts, but when you start talking about student-athletes, they shouldn’t have to play four night games on the road. I’ve talked to Gene Smith about it, and I’ll bring it up to our commissioner. We’ll find out if we really do care about getting home at 4 o’clock in the morning four times.”

He got his wish this time around.

Ohio State-Iowa series history

Ohio State and Iowa have a much longer history than most of the Buckeyes’ 2017 opponents to date, though they last faced off in 2013. The Buckeyes have a commanding series lead, with a 46-14-3 record against the Hawkeyes.

Kirk Ferentz has been at Iowa so long that his first game against the Buckeyes as the Hawkeyes’ coach came against John Cooper. In nine games, he’s only beaten Ohio State once, with the sole victory coming in 2004. That year, Iowa cruised to a 33-7 win in Iowa City on the way to a 10-2 season that also included a Citrus Bowl win.

In 2009, Jim Tressel and the Buckeyes earned a Rose Bowl berth in dramatic fashion, beating the No. 10 Hawkeyes in overtime. Both teams won BCS bowls that season, with the Buckeyes beating Oregon in Pasadena and Iowa topping Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
