Michael Hill returns
The mystery surrounding defensive tackle Michael Hill’s suspension is finally over. Defensive coordinator Greg Schiano announced Tuesday that Hill will be available for the Buckeyes’ game at Nebraska on Saturday, ending Hill’s suspension after six games.
“How much playing time? We’ll see,” Schiano said. “That will all play out with however [defensive line coach Larry Johnson] plans to use him. But he’s an experienced guy who has played really good football for us over time.”
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer had previously declined to give a timetable on how long the suspension would last, instead just noting with each passing week that it was still in effect.
Battle brewing at right guard
Matthew Burrell replaced injured right guard Branden Bowen during the Maryland game last Saturday, but it’s not yet his job, at least for the foreseeable future. Ohio State’s depth chart listed Burrell as a co-starter with Demetrius Knox, and Meyer said during his weekly teleconference that Malcolm Pridgeon is also in the mix.
“It’s open, wide open,” Meyer said. “There are three people right now in the running for it.”
Big Ten admits targeting error
In an utterly unsurprising development, the Big Ten admitted its officials erred in ejecting Denzel Ward from the Maryland game.
“What you do is you turn it in each week, I have a guy on our staff call the Big Ten officiating, and the report back was that on the field it was a snap judgment,” Meyer said. “We’re going to reward Denzel Ward today at practice for a caused fumble and he should not have been ejected. It was a mistake.”
