Ohio State fans named best in not just college football, but the world

Ohio State fans have a brand new thing to brag about, as one publication is calling them the best fanbase in the world. Not just college football or even sports, the world.

The Buckeyes received the honor in the Fandom 250 from Fansided, a power ranking of the 250 best overall fanbases in the world. To put in perspective how much the list encompasses, the fanbases of Game of Thrones, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Star Wars and Conor McGregor rounded out the top 5.

As far as just college football goes, Ohio State fans will be happy to know they beat out Alabama and Notre Dame, who came in second and third, while Michigan fans sat at 11th. The Michigan fans will no doubt have loud opinions on that, as is tradition.

What set the Buckeyes apart from the field of, well, just about everything in entertainment? Fansided cited the fanbase’s longevity, sheer size, recent success and passion when the editorial team visited the Buckeyes game against Penn State.

“Buckeye Nation grabbed plenty of the spotlight this year but the fans really shone when College GameDay came to Columbus for the Ohio State, Penn State game which was hands down the college game of the year. FanSided editors were in Columbus and witnessed this fandom’s mettle, from braving the sleet and rain early in the day to hanging with their team throughout the entire game even when all seemed lost. The atmosphere was electric.
