Could two of Notre Dame’s offensive linemen find themselves as first-round selections in next year’s NFL Draft?
According to CBSSports.com’s Chris Trapasso, tackle Mike McGlinchey and guard Quenton Nelson project as the fourth and fifth overall selections by the 49ers and Bears in April, respectively. The duo have played a part in leading the Fighting Irish to a five-game winning streak and potentially back into the playoff picture, with their only loss of the season thus far coming at home to #4 Georgia.
The Irish have allowed just ten sacks in six games in support of Brandon Wimbush, who had thrown for 782 yards and 6 touchdowns – while rushing for 402 yards and 8 scores – before a foot injury held him out of the team’s win at North Carolina. RB Josh Adams has also benefited from strong offensive line play as he has carried the ball 86 times for 776 yards (9 yards per carry) and scored 5 times. If those numbers continue on an upward trajectory, McGlinchey and Nelson could find their draft stock continue to stay at a high level.
Notre Dame is off until October 21, when they host Southern Cal in South Bend.
