Notre Dame junior Brandon Wimbush ties school QB record with 10th touchdown this season

Brandon Wimbush-Notre Dame-Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush hadn’t played in two weeks coming into the matchup against USC on Saturday night, but he hasn’t shown any signs of rust. In fact, Wimbush is having an excellent game and wrote his name into the record books.

The junior threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in a dominating first half for the Irish. Then on the team’s first possession of the third quarter, Wimbush added another rushing touchdown, which gives him 10 this season, tying him with Deshone Kizer for most in a single season by a Notre Dame quarterback.

With five games still remaining in the regular season, hard to envision Wimbush not owning that record by the end of 2017. The only thing that probably could keep him from scoring 1 more rushing touchdown is probably his health.

Against USC, the junior signal caller has 106 rushing yards to go with his two touchdowns on 14 carries. He only has 85 passing yards, but he’s made his most of his 7 completions with a pair of passing touchdowns. And Wimbush still has plenty of time to add to those numbers with more than another quarter to go.

Notre Dame leads USC, 42-14, with about 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
