Notre Dame LB Greer Martini (knee) out vs. USC

Notre Dame linebacker Greer Martini will miss Saturday’s game vs. USC due to having surgery to repair a meniscus injury in his knee, the team announced.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly believes Martini, a co-starter at the buck linebacker spot alongside junior Te’von Coney, will be able to return for the Irish’s next game on Oct. 28 vs. visiting N.C. State, according this quote obtained by  Rivals.com reporter Lou Somogyi.

“I think there’s a good chance we’ll have him back for North Carolina State,” said Kelly. “He had a small procedure done to clean up a small meniscus. He was moving around today pretty good, but we would be rushing to get him back. We’ll hold him out this week but we feel really confident we’ll get him back next week.”

Martini is a co-captain for Notre Dame and has the third most tackles on the team this season with 39 tackles, as well as two for a loss and two forced fumbles.

The senior recorded his first career interception on Sept. 30 vs. Miami (OH).

For his career, Martini has amassed 155 tackles (13.5 tackles for a loss) and five sacks.

Notre Dame hosts long-time rival USC on Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. (EST), with the contest televised on NBC.
