North Carolina jack-of-all-trades Theo Pinson has had an interesting career for the Tar Heels. Pinson doesn’t post monster numbers, but he consistently makes winning plays. Seth Davis named Pinson the captain of his All-Glue Team for his efforts on Tuesday.
Davis’ article starts with some surprising comments from Roy Williams, who was low on Pinson when he first watched him play in high school. Here’s what Williams said:
“The first time I saw him play, I didn’t think he was that good,” Williams says. “The second time I went to see him play, I didn’t think he was that good. The third time I went to see him, I didn’t think he was that good. I thought he was highly, highly overrated.”
Alas, it worked out for all parties. Pinson has reached two Final Fours and won a national championship with the Tar Heels; he’s a big reason why North Carolina is a 2-seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
He’ll try to add a third Final Four to his resume in the coming weeks.
