North Carolina to start Brandon Harris at quarterback against Virginia

North Carolina is going with a new face at quarterback as they take on Virginia at Kenan Stadium. Senior Brandon Harris will get the call under center against the Cavaliers.

Harris has barely played since he went 17 of 23 for 216 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Louisville on September 9. It’s an interesting reversal from Chazz Surratt, who has thrown for over 1100 yards, 6 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions in his first year at quarterback. He was just 19 of 42 for 179 yards and a touchdown last Saturday against Notre Dame, so perhaps coach Larry Fedora is looking to spark something under the struggling Tar Heels.

North Carolina is in the midst of a 1-5 season. They have been ravaged by injuries and have taken a big step back from an 11-3 season in 2015 that saw them win the ACC Coastal Division and advance to the ACC Championship Game. Last year, they were 8-5, finishing tied for 2nd in the Coastal.

Meanwhile, Virginia is 4-1 and coming off a 28-21 victory over Duke. The Cavaliers are looking for a win to keep pace with Miami and Georgia Tech, who are both 2-0 in the division and play each other on Saturday.
