Read his daily notebooks here at 9 a.m. ET Monday through Friday. In this edition, we discuss 5-star 2019 small forward Wendell Moore, who is expanding his recruitment after seeming to be a lock for North Carolina.

There were plenty of 2019 prospects that could have caused some drama coming down to their commitment, but 5-star small forward Wendell Moore wasn’t supposed to be one of them.

Moore, a teammate of Class of 2018 4-star guard/forward commit Rechon Black, seemed all but ready to head to Chapel Hill. He had visited a couple times in the last month and a half, including for “Late Night with Roy” last weekend, and had even said that he believed he was close to making a decision.

Given that, it seemed like North Carolina was going to be the destination, and sooner rather than later. Even other schools had believed that Moore was going to North Carolina and, according to Rivals, Moore essentially shut down his recruiting process in September with the intent on announcing his decision sometime around the beginning of his high school season in November.

Then came the news earlier this week from Moore’s father in an interview with Rivals’ Clint Jackson that he plans on expanding his recruitment. This surprising revelation comes on the back end of a Duke offer for Moore, although his father said that the Duke offer isn’t the reason for changing his tune.

“He isn’t (doing this) only because of the Duke offer,” Moore’s dad told Jackson. “He just wants to experience some more things, take some visits and continue to work out for the college coaches. He really likes working out for the coaches.”

According to Moore’s father, North Carolina has indicated to the Moore family that it still intends to recruit Moore, the No. 7 small forward and No. 22 overall player in the Class of 2019, but that it will begin to look at other players at his position and it won’t hold the spot for him.

Stanford, Wake Forest, N.C. State and Duke are the schools that Moore would like to get a look at before making any decision, according to Jackson.

“He plans to continue to (talk to them) and as of now, they are still his leader,” Moore’s father said. “He is only 16-years old. So it’s mainly that he just wants to go through the process and see some options. He wants to take his official visits.”

North Carolina football offers RB Aaron Young

It’s been a while since we’ve had a football offer update here on The Dean’s List with all of the basketball recruiting news, but Larry Fedora’s continued to work on his Class of 2019 recruiting board.

On Wednesday, the Tar Heels offered 3-star Coatesville, Pa., running back Aaron Young.

Young, the No. 42 running back and No. 557 overall player in the class per 247Sports, is up to 11 offers including Army, Navy, Rutgers and West Virginia.

Young is the ninth running back to get an offer from North Carolina in the Class of 2019. So far, the Tar Heels do not have a running back committed for its Class of 2018.
