Welcome to the Tuesday edition of our Oklahoma State DieHards morning roundup, where we take you through the biggest headlines around Oklahoma State athletics.
NFL scout not sold on Mason Rudolph’s arm
Former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph was pegged as one of the “most overrated prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft class,” by Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller. Rudolph, who aims to be one of the first quarterbacks taken in the upcoming draft, was criticized by an anonymous NFL scout for his arm and the system he played in at Oklahoma State. The scout finished by saying he is “Bryce Petty all over again.”
Rudolph hasn’t earned the attention of UCLA’s Josh Rosen or USC’s Sam Darnold as an early draft choice, but he could easily turn out to be a Round 1 or Round 2 selection. The same NFL scout just doesn’t “see it.” Rudolph will get to prove the NFL scout wrong, however, when he heads to the 2018 NFL Combine on Feb. 27 in Indianapolis.
Kaylee Jensen wins Big 12 Player of the Week hoops award
Oklahoma State center Kaylee Jensen won the Big 12 women’s basketball Player of the Week award for the first time since Jan. 2. The league announced the senior captured the award on Monday after posting a pair of double-doubles in road wins over No. 24 TCU and Iowa State last week.
Jensen and the No. 21-ranked Cowgirls (18-6, 9-4 Big 12) resume action against third-ranked Baylor (23-1, 13-0 Big 12) on Tuesday. The game is set for an 8 p.m. ET start on FOX Sports Plus.
Vanessa Shippy earns first Big 12 Player of the Week softball honor
Oklahoma State softball senior Vanessa Shippy accomplished a first on Monday. Shippy was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the league office announced.
Shippy batted 11 for 13, scored 9 runs, drove in 6, walked 5 times and hit 2 home runs at the Kajikawa Classic. Her opening weekend performance has the Cowgirls out to a 4-1 start with wins over No. 7 Arizona, Missouri, New Mexico and Western Michigan.
Other headlines from the athletic department:
- Women’s golf checked in at 15th place after two rounds at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. The team is led by Chih-Min Chen (70-74—144), who’s tied for ninth place, and Alexis Sadeghy (78-72—150), who’s tied for 42nd.
