Nebraska football is the No. 1 topic in Big Red Rising every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Huskers sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Huskers football, recruiting, basketball and more.

The ups …

Nebraska got some much needed positive news on the recruiting trail on Sunday when two athletes committed to the Huskers.  C.J. Smith, a 4-star safety from Oxbridge Academy (Fla.) became the first commit of the Scott Frost era, followed not long after by 3-star wide receiver Jaron Woodyard from Arizona Western Community College.

… and the downs

While it was a mostly good recruiting day for the Huskers, Nebraska did lose the commitment of 4-star wide receiver Joshua Moore. His de-commitment was lessened by the commitment of Woodyard but the Nebraska staff has plenty of work ahead with Huskers’ wide receiver commit Cameron Brown now on de-commitment watch.

Adrian Martinez bonds with new coach

In other recruiting news, 4-star quarterback target Adrian Martinez and his father visited Nebraska last weekend. Martinez recapped the visit to Land of 10’s Chris Bumbaca, and it sounds like he had a chance to get to know Frost.

Final Four bound

The Nebraska volleyball team is heading back to the Final Four for the third straight year. The fifth-seeded Cornhuskers beat fourth-seeded Kentucky, 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 25-27, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon. Nebraska will face Penn State in the semifinals on Thursday night in Kansas City.

The best hire

Hiring Frost has proven to be a popular decision with many more people than just those in the state of Nebraska. ESPN’s David Pollack chimed in on the decision over the weekend and was nothing but complimentary of the Huskers and their new head coach.

Always loyal

As for Frost’s former teammates, they are just as thrilled to have Frost back at Nebraska. As for his loyalty, they have nothing but good things to say about the former Nebraska quarterback.
