By this point in the process, it’s clear the Huskers have zeroed in on 4-star dual-threat quarterback Adrian Martinez.

In fact, Nebraska coach Scott Frost is so convinced that Martinez is his guy that he flew across the country Tuesday night, along with quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco. The trip took the coaches from Orlando, Fla., where they are helping Central Florida prepare for the Peach Bowl, to Fresno, Calif., for an in-home visit with Martinez.

The extensive travel in a short period of time was quite the gesture. It was the second time in about a week that Verduzco has trekked to the West Coast. This particular in-home visit came on the heels of Martinez’s official visit over the weekend to Nebraska, which he raved about, and just one night after new Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt and some of his staff conducted an in-home of their own. Martinez is still committed to the Volunteers, but recently removed the fact he is pledged to the Volunteers from his Twitter bio.

Things have moved quickly with Nebraska and Martinez. Almost as fast as the jet that carried Frost and Verduzco cross-country twice in the span of a few hours, as they juggle bowl-game responsibilities at UCF and recruiting duties for Nebraska. Martinez intends to make a final decision before the early signing period and put pen to paper next week.

Huskers check on John Huggins

One safety, 4-star prospect C.J. Smith, is already committed in this class, but Nebraska wants to add at least one more at the position. Four-star Cam’Ron Jones will take an official visit this weekend, and an armada of Huskers coaches stopped by 4-star safety John Huggins’ home this week to pitch Nebraska.

Outside linebackers coach Jovan Dewitt, offensive line coach Greg Austin, tight ends coach Sean Beckton, and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander all made the trip to see Huggins, who lives in Daytona Beach, Fla., which is approximately 50 miles from UCF’s campus.

The one-time Florida State commit named the Huskers his favorite last week, but then received an offer from Florida. It appears the Gators now hold the lead for Huggins.

Huggins is the No. 32 safety in the class, according to the 247Sports composite.
