Nebraska recruiting: Recruits react to ‘Homegrown Nebraska’ walk-on event

Nebraska coach Scott Frost and his staff hosted their “Homegrown Nebraska” event for in-state, walk-on athletes Wednesday evening. The immediate reaction from recruits was nothing but positive. In fact, preferred walk-on commit Ryan Schommer spoke with Land of 10 Wednesday night about how it was everything he expected ― and more.

The event was invite only, and approximately 40 athletes from Nebraska attended. Frost returned to Lincoln from Peach Bowl preparation in Orlando, Fla., for the event, taking time to meet one-on-one with many athletes.

Here’s a quick look at what some of the players said about the event:

“I’m thrilled. It’s been a dream of mine for most of my life,” Ryan Schommer told Land of 10.

One additional reaction was especially notable. Former Nebraska walk-on offensive lineman Matt Hoskinson, who played with the Huskers in the mid-1990s, had a strong endorsement of the “Homegrown Nebraska” event:
