Tyrique Stevenson among Nebraska’s most recent offers
Nebraska has offered another top-100 prospect in the 2019 recruiting class.
Tyrique Stevenson, the eighth-ranked cornerback in the class, earned a Nebraska offer over the weekend, he announced on Twitter.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Homestead, Fla., native’s offer is in line with how the Huskers staff recruits the position, with a clear preference for longer, athletic types at cornerback.
Stevenson is the No. 89 overall prospect in the class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
It’s been a busy 2018 for Stevenson on the recruiting trail. He took an unofficial visit to Auburn the weekend of Jan. 12, then attended junior day at Clemson the next weekend.
That’s been followed by three unofficial visits to nearby Miami over the next two months, with the most recent trip coming the weekend of March 10. All three of the predictions on Stevenson’s 247Sports Crystal Ball favor of the Hurricanes. Clemson and Alabama are also contenders for the No. 13 prospect in Florida. He holds 19 offers.
Nebraska offers offensive lineman
The Huskers haven’t been shy about offering any position group in the 2019 cycle, but that’s been especially true on the offensive line. Andrew Kristofic, a 6-5 lineman who can play tackle or guard, is the latest big man to pick up a Huskers offer.
The 3-star prospect is the No. 51 tackle and No. 511 overall prospect in the class.
Kristofic is a Gibsonia, Pa., native with strong Pittsburgh roots. His father played at Pitt, and that school has recruited him hard. Wisconsin and Ohio State are also in the mix. Nebraska has time to make an impression, but there likely is a lot of ground to make up.
“I’m thinking that I really don’t want to go into senior year without having made a decision,” Kristofic told Land of 10’s Ryan Donnelly. “If I don’t feel comfortable deciding before then, I’m not going to just pick a school to pick a school to commit to. Whenever I do pick a school, that’s going to be my school and there won’t be any changes. I’m also not going to wait around once I feel like I know for a fact where I’m going and where I want to spend the next few years. I won’t hesitate to make it official.”
Huskers make top 10 for John Olmstead
In other tackle news, 4-star lineman John Olmstead released a top 10 over the weekend, with several Big Ten teams on the list and Nebraska being one of them.
Olmstead, a native of Metuchen, N.J., also included Ohio State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Notre Dame, LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss, Rutgers and Penn State as his remaining candidates, trimming the list of 35 offers. He is the No. 19 tackle prospect and the No. 171 overall recruit.
The previous staff at Nebraska reached out to Olmstead first. Then, the new staff informed him his offer was still good and that they remained highly interested. The work put in with Olmstead has paid off, but it might be too much of an uphill battle, though.
Notre Dame has carved out a clear stake in his recruitment, owning all nine predictions on Olmstead’s 247Sports Crystal Ball. Olmstead unofficially visited Ohio State and Notre Dame last season and also recently attended a junior day event at Rutgers.
He will need work in the weight room when he arrives at college, but he has plenty of strong attributes already. Here’s what 247Sports analyst Brian Dohn wrote regarding Olmstead:
“He shows quick feet and a good knee bend. Olmstead is able to use his lower body strength to take control of a block even when it looks like he is being overpowered at first. Again, upper body strength will change that, so it is not a concern. He engages and drives his legs in run blocking and he is quick to get his hands inside on the defensive player. In pass protection, his foot speed and length enable him to cover the edge, but developing his kick step is important.”
