Nebraska football is the No. 1 topic in Big Red Rising every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Huskers sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Huskers football, recruiting, basketball and more.
Another big recruiting weekend
It was the last weekend of official visits before the early signing period and Nebraska took advantage of it. Junior college safety Deontai Williams committed to Nebraska and 3-star wide receiver Justin McGriff de-committed from UCF (he could commit to the Huskers soon). Both were in Lincoln over the weekend.
As for other recruiting news, the successful weekend showed 4-star defensive end and current Nebraska commit Tate Wildeman that he does want to sign early. And Kearney (Neb.) Catholic quarterback Matt Masker made it official by accepting his preferred walk-on offer after the Huskers’ Homegrown Nebraska event.
Nebraska won its second national volleyball title in three years Saturday night with a win over Florida. The Huskers were welcomed home with a big-time greeting from fans and university officials before coach John Cook took the team for Raising Cane’s on him. Well deserved.
Continues to impress
Nebraska football coach Scott Frost continues to impress, and was recently rated a top hire in 2017 by Sports Illustrated. In fact, he’s so impressive that one analyst thinks he could coach the defensive side of the ball, too.
Frost was also given a big welcome home before Nebraska basketball’s matchup with Kansas on Saturday.
Good news for Rex Burkhead
Former Huskers running back Rex Burkhead had a bit of a scare on Sunday in the New England Patriots’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He left the field with a knee injury, but the prognosis thankfully is better than originally expected.
The Nebraska women’s basketball team hasn’t been home since the beginning of the month, but the Huskers are rolling. That continued on Sunday when Nebraska came out on top with an 81-55 win against San Jose State.

Watched @jcook2 speak during the national championship celebration and got emotional because you’ll never see a coach care for his players outside of the volleyball court as much as he does. Also, please don’t ever retire because I couldn’t watch @Huskervball without you there.
