DETROIT — Purdue is back in the Sweet 16 for a second straight year after defeating Butler 79-76 on Sunday afternoon. An impressive block from forward Vincent Edwards and a late 3-pointer from guard Dakota Mathias stand out as the keys to the Boilermakers’ latest victory.
But Edwards thinks a force outside of Little Caesars Arena also may have helped. That force being an all-important blessing from rapper Lil B.
Early Saturday morning, Lil B announced his blessing of the Purdue team via Twitter.

Later that day, Edwards made sure to send a thank you Lil B’s way during his time meeting with the media.
“If Lil B is watching this, shout out to Lil B for blessing us with his presence,” Edwards said. “Appreciate it.”
The back-and-forth continued with Lil B responding once more, this time personally giving Edwards a shout-out of his own.

Edwards scored a team-high 20 points on just 8 shots in Purdue’s win Sunday . The Boilermakers outscored Butler by 17 points with Edwards on the floor. After watching Edwards’ performance, guard Ryan Cline was also calling for a personal shout-out from Lil B in the locker room Sunday .
“Hey, tell him to tweet about me,” Cline asked Edwards.
“It was huge for him to shout us out, so I wanted to shout him out in return,” Edwards said. “I also had to give him another shout-out [Sunday] because it was only right.”
What Edwards is most concerned about is receiving a “curse” from Lil B. In the past, Lil B placed the “curse of the Based God” on NBA players Kevin Durant and James Harden.
Lil B has said his curse on Durant was the reason for the Oklahoma City Thunder blew a 3-1 lead to the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 Western Conference Finals when Durant was still with the Thunder. He placed his curse on Harden during the 2015 NBA postseason with Harden’s Houston Rockets in a series against the Warriors. Lil B was in attendance for Game 5 of that series when Harden committed a playoff-record 13 turnovers and the Rockets were eliminated.
“I’m superstitious,” Edwards said. “I’m a firm believer. I’m that type of guy. I don’t want to have any type of … no. He gets all the credit.”
The Boilermakers are now heading to Boston for a matchup with Texas Tech on Friday . When they arrive in New England, they’re hoping the blessings from Lil B will follow them.
