Ohio State is a trendy pick to lose as a No. 5 seed in the first round to No. 12-seed South Dakota State, but Keita Bates-Diop and the Buckeyes are doing their best to make sure the Buckeyes don’t go home early.

Bates-Diop, the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year, posted up South Dakota State’s Mike Daum and muscled his way to two tough points in the paint. Then Andrew Dakich swiped the ensuing inbounds pass, and Bates-Diop alertly sprinted back up the court to get in position for a 3-pointer.

Splash.

Then Bates-Diop glided down the court to receive a pass and throw down this dunk.

Bates-Diop scored 13 of Ohio State’s first 26 points. That’s the kind of performance Ohio State’s going to need to keep seeing if the Buckeyes are to make a run in March.
