SB Nation projects an Oklahoma-Ohio State rematch in the College Football Playoff

Baker Mayfield would love nothing more than playing his final college football game in the National Championship.

Ohio State would love nothing more than to avenge its Week 2 loss to Oklahoma, which was capped by Mayfield planting a Sooners flag at midfield in the Shoe.

S B Nation’s latest bowl projections anticipating each getting exactly what they want in a Rose Bowl rematch between the No. 2-seeded Sooners and No. 3-seeded Buckeyes.

“I had OU as the No. 3 seed here last week, but failed to account for the committee likely using head-to-head as a tiebreaker of sorts. The committee does not automatically factor head-to-head into everything, but does list it as a secondary consideration.”

After exchanging double-digit road victories in 2016 and 2017, Oklahoma boasts this season’s bragging rights after notching a 31-16 win in Columbus.

Mayfield single-handedly accounted for more points produced than the Buckeyes as a whole with three touchdown passes, and his 386 passing yards was more than J.T. Barrett’s entire Ohio State offensive added throughout the evening (350).

Consequently, Oklahoma laid claim to the resume-building non-conference win that it will now rely so heavily upon to even reach the College Football Playoff after falling to then-2-2 Iowa State weeks ago.

Now after splitting their home-and-home series, the Sooners and Buckeyes may be on pace for a tie-breaking battle in The Granddaddy of Them All with a trip to the National Championship on the line.
