Duke has opened up a double-digit lead over Rhode Island at halftime as it looks to book yet another trip to the Sweet 16.
While the game itself has lacked dramatic moments, there was apparently some drama in the stands involving Rams fans and the mother of Blue Devils forward Wendell Carter Jr. It’s not clear what the situation was, but reports state that Kylia Carter was apparently in tears – or close to it – at one point.
Wendell Carter's mom has changed seats after some yelling back and forth with a URI fan early in the first half. The URI fan was warned and things calmed down after that. (There are a lot of URI fans sitting across the aisle from the Duke traveling party.)

Incident in the crowd involving Wendell Carter Jr.'s mother (taunting from RI fans?); she appears to be wiping away tears and has moved closer to Duke bench; RI fan escorted away

Basketball is certainly an intense sport full of emotion. That emotion doesn’t just involve players, but fans as well. And while it’s not known what exactly happened between Carter’s mother and the Rhode Island supporters in question, while there’s certainly room for friendly banter, unfortunately lines get crossed at times.
Fortunately, things appeared to settle down toward the end of the half.

Duke fans, on the other hand, will be pleased with their team’s performance. It took a 45-28 lead into the locker room, thanks in part to 53.6 percent shooting and Carter’s 9 points and 4 rebounds.
