MLB star Anthony Rizzo calls Iowa’s Kinnick Wave ‘The best college football tradition of all time’

In the middle of a MLB playoff series, Anthony Rizzo has a lot to worry about. But the Chicago Cubs power-hitting first baseman took time to shoutout Iowa football on Monday via his Instagram.

Rizzo posted a video of the Kinnick Wave, calling it “by far the best college tradition of all time.”

Rizzo’s post had nearly 200,000 views as of Tuesday morning.

The Kinnick Wave has been sweeping the nation and has gained a ton of national attention, from ESPN College GameDay to road games for the Hawkeyes and more.

Last weekend, in the Hawkeyes’ 45-16 win over Illinois, the Fighting Illini did their part with a wave and the Iowa marching band did the same with a giant wave on the field.

Next up for the Hawkeyes is a bye week before a noon game at Northwestern on Oct. 21.

Rizzo and the Cubbies, meanwhile, have a 2-1 series lead over the Washington Nationals in the National League Division Series. A win this evening would put them into the Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Rizzo is batting .333 right now with four RBI and one home run.
