It’s no surprise that Will Grier is a noted threat to opponents, but the praise heaped on him by Mike Gundy is high.
“I think this will be the best passing quarterback we’ll face this year,” said Gundy of Grier, according to Mitch Vingle of the Charleston Gazette-Mail. “Defensively they’re capable of playing very, very well on every given day. It’ll be a dogfight. They’re a very good team.”
That’s extremely high praise in the Big 12, where the odds are that you’ll face one prolific passer after another. Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield is a legitimate Heisman candidate, Texas Tech’s Nic Shimonek is extremely precise, and of course, there’s Gundy’s own Mason Rudolph, who has some Heisman hype and high praise of his own.
To put it in plain words, Will Grier is at the top of his position group in the best conference for his position group, according to the coach he’s about to face. The over/under for West Virginia and Oklahoma State is currently set at 73.5, and if both quarterbacks get hot, that could go up in smoke in just the first half.
